NEH Summer Institute

Endicott College

Beverly, Massachusetts

July 10th-28th, 2023

Since 1692, the Salem witch trials have been dramatized, mythologized, and reimagined in popular memory. Participants in this three-week summer institute, held in July 2023, engaged in an in-depth and collaborative study of the origin, development, and legacy of the Salem witch trials—a foundational event in American history that continues to attract scholarly attention and widespread popular interest.

The resulting website, Teaching the Salem Witch Trials, provides an overview of the 2023 Summer Institute along with resources (i.e. Teaching Units, Video Tours, Primary Sources, Podcast series) for those looking to incorporate this topic into their own teaching or who are curious to learn more about the events of 1692 and beyond.
